Junior Parent Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am so excited to be teaching your student this year in English III. Any time during the year if you would like to meet with me or discuss your studentís progress, please feel free to contact me. At the end of this letter I will give you my phone numbers and times that I am available. I want to help your student succeed; therefore, you and I should work together. I have also seen that students do much better when the teacher and the parent know each other; so, if you would like to meet me or visit my classroom please do so.

We pass out report cards at the end of each 9-week period, and if you do not receive on please feel free to call me. Progress reports are also sent home about mid-way through each 9-week period, and I will be sending one home with each student; therefore, if you do not receive one please call me, and I will be glad to tell you about your studentís progress. At any time, if there is a problem, please call me immediately, because if you wait until the third or fourth 9 weeks it may be too late to pull your studentís grade up to passing for the year. This will also help me keep the students interested. If your student knows you are going to ask questions and that you might call me, perhaps the student will try harder and pay closer attention. Your attention to your student is just as important as the attention I give him/her at school, if not more important.

Since many juniors are preparing to take the ACT, I will be working towards improving their abilities so the students will be able to achieve a higher score. Students must take the ACT test in order to go to college. Also, if your student has not already passed the SATP English II, he/she will have the opportunity to take a Chapter English Class that will help prepare your student for the retest and help your student in his/her course work.

Students will receive a monthly calendar that will have all reading assignments and project due dates on it. All tests will also be noted on the calendar as well as most quizzes. Most of my tests will be given on Tuesday, so be sure to ask your student about it on Monday. Most Vocabulary quizzes will be on Thursday. Reading quizzes can be given at any time. I do offer extra credit each nine weeks; however it is up to the student to turn this work in. I will not ask for it or remind the students about itóthe work is extra credit.

I have given your student a newsletter outlining my expectations and rules. Please read over that sheet as well. I demand much of my students, but nothing they cannot do!!! If there are any questions about any of this, please contact me as soon as possible.

Be sure to sign and return the second page! Thank you for your help and support. I know together we will create a wonderful senior year for all the students!!!
